Dry, gritty, burning, or watery eyes
Drops treat the symptom. A $50 diagnostic workup finds the cause, then we match the treatment to it: NuLids, IPL, punctal plugs, or scleral lenses.
A bump, crust, or redness on your eyelid

Slowing nearsightedness in children
If your child's glasses get stronger every year, that progression can be slowed. Myopia control uses specially designed contact lenses or glasses lenses to slow the progression of nearsightedness, and it's most effective when started early, typically between ages 8 and 12.

Dr. Kian (Kush) Patel, O.D.
Dr. Patel earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of California, Irvine before completing his Doctorate of Optometry at the Marshall B. Ketchum University College of Optometry (formerly the Southern California College of Optometry). He is TPA-certified and holds specialized certification in Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy for dry eye management. Dr. Patel is licensed in Massachusetts under his legal name, Kush Patel, O.D., and goes by Kian.
With a clinical focus on dry eye disease, meibomian gland dysfunction, and specialty contact lens fitting, Dr. Patel combines advanced diagnostic imaging with evidence-based treatments to address the root cause of each patient's symptoms rather than masking them with drops alone. He also provides evidence-based myopia control for children, offering FDA-approved treatments to slow the progression of nearsightedness.

How much does an eye exam cost?
A comprehensive eye exam is $125 without insurance. Vision plans like VSP and EyeMed typically cover routine exams with just a copay. A contact lens evaluation and fitting is an add-on: $95 for new wearers, $80 for existing wearers. Can I really get glasses the same day?
Often, yes. Our optical lab is inside the practice, so single-vision lenses (distance, computer, or reading) that are in stock can be cut and fitted the same day. What's the difference between vision insurance and medical insurance?
Vision insurance covers routine care: your yearly exam (usually just a copay) plus allowances toward glasses or contacts. Medical insurance covers eye problems: dry eye visits, infections, styes, floaters, injuries, and diabetic eye care, billed like any other medical visit subject to your copay and deductible. What causes dry eye?
Dry eye has two main forms: evaporative, caused by blocked oil glands in the eyelids (meibomian gland dysfunction), and aqueous deficient, from low tear production. Common triggers include aging, hormonal changes, autoimmune conditions, medications like antihistamines, screen use, and dry environments. At what age should my child start myopia control?
Myopia control is most effective when started early, typically between ages 8 and 12, when nearsightedness tends to progress fastest. If your child's prescription is increasing year over year, schedule a myopia consultation to discuss MiSight contact lenses and Stellest spectacle lenses.

The office is easy to reach from Route 9 and I-95, and MBTA accessible via the Green Line (Woodland Station).
